Work History

I studied Computer Science at Bradford University from 2000 - 2004, passing with honours. During my degree, I completed a 15 month industrial placement with BT FastTrack, developing software for use within the business. Following my graduation, I have held the following positions.

MonsterMob PLC

LAMP stack - 1 year 3 months

After graduation, I took a job as a developer with MonsterMob PLC, a mobile ringtones and java games company. During this time I was introduced to the Smarty templating system and Subversion, and strengthened my knowledge of WAP and SMS technologies, including SMS broadcasting, SMS billing and WAP Push messages. I also gained an introduction into process control for PHP, and the creation of fully daemonized scripts.

7city Learning

LAMP stack - 2 years

After two years at MonsterMob, I moved to 7city Learning, a financial training company which serves many of the top banks and financial instituions around the world. As a senior developer, I took on key projects such as the creation of a modular portal e-learning system. This allowed the core suite of e-learning tools to be drafted into a number of client branded portals with a closed membership group. By the time I left the company, this had been used for over 100 client portals.

I also worked on the creation of booking systems which take orders for training from key clients, and the addition of e-commerce card charging capabilities to the public website.

Contracting

PHP; mixed environments - 4 months

Seeking some exposure to different development practices and environments, I took on a stint as a contractor. Two of my key contracts during this time were:

Dwell Retail LTD

LAMP stack - 2 years - current position

At the start of the credit crunch, I moved away from contracting and took a permanent role with Dwell Retail LTD. I currently work for the company as a systems developer. I was responsible for the creation of the current website from scratch, working from jpeg images supplied by an external designer. This included all HTML, CSS (using modern CSS positioning techniques), javascript and back end PHP code.

As the 'owner' of the website project, I handle all the site development including transactional elements such as 3D Secure card processing and order creation.

My other projects are varied and include modules on the in-house CMS system and core payment systems.

I am also responsible for the creation of the touchscreen product catalogue systems in place at the dwell Westfield store.
